Intelligent Mail barcode (IMB) is a 65 bar, 4-level barcode which has replaced the 2-level Post net barcode used by USPS. This new IMB provides the following features:

• Tracking. Mail can be tracked, and reports generated. Each piece can be tracked to the destination, and reports based on state, date or zip code generated.
  
  
• eDocs. This allows automatic uploading of mailing document to USPS site (called Postal One), thus reducing operator errors.
  
  
• Allows enhanced features like address updates, and container visibility. This allows us to track the bulk mail.
  
  
• IMB offers more control and visibility of the mail as it moves through the USPS delivery chain.
  
  
• Allows the USPS to identify each piece on the “USPS “cloud” Thus ensuring better accountability.

IMB will become mandatory by the USPS in the very near future for obtaining postal discounts.
